It’s time we chip in.

Our dogs and our planet deserve the best.

That's why we directly source nutrient-rich ingredients that 'chip in' for a healthier future.

High quality pet nutrition powered by planet friendly proteins that our dogs love. We're all about pets and their people “chipping in” to help save the planet.

For the Love of Dogs & the Planet

The eco pawprint is real.

The protein we eat is the greatest driver of our “eco pawprint” on land use, oceans, air quality and biodiversity. The carbon pawprint is the amount of water, land, and greenhouse gas emissions involved in the production of pet products and its social cost.

  1. 180 millionIf considered their own country, the 180 million pets in the USA would rank 5th in global meat consumption!
  2. 80%+We make high-quality, drool-worthy products that use 80%+ fewer resources.
  3. 2,000 gallonsIt only takes 1 gallon of water to produce 1 pound of cricket protein, but 2,000 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef protein.
  4. 80%More than 80% of the amazon deforestation is for cattle ranching. An area 20x the size of manhattan was slashed from january to april 2020.
  5. 40%Animal agriculture causes more than 40% of hooman methane emissions, a greenhouse gas with more than 20x the global warming potential as co2.
  6. One thirdOver one third of fish stocks are overfished, and bycatch is killing dolphins, sea turtles and whales.
  7. 1,000 timesWe are in the “6th extinction.” Extinction rates are up to 1,000 times faster than their natural rate.

“Love it! Choosing a dog food has always been a stressful experience, until I found Chippin. Simple, wholesome ingredients that my pup loves and I know I'm doing my part for the environment by choosing less intensive proteins. The new dehydrated format is way better than lugging around a 60 lb bag of kibble. We're on the subscribe & save plan and love it! Never looking back.”

How to Transition Your Dog to Cricket Daily Food

To ensure a smooth transition to new food, gradually increase the amount of new food in your dog's meals over a period of seven to 14 days. Here’s a suggested timeline:

  1. Days 1-3 25% new food, 75% old food
  2. Days 4-6 50% new food, 50% old food
  3. Days 7-9 75% new food, 25% old food
  4. Day 10 100% new food

The dehydrated recipe is both fresh and convenient! Mix the dry food with warm water, stir and wait three minutes, then serve the planet-friendly food to your pup!

If your dog is dealing with tummy issues, you’ll want to choose a healthy alternative to kibble or traditional wet food, or seeking the most sustainable food option for your dog. Try our Cricket Recipe Dehydrated Dog Food and see the pawsitive impact it can have on your dog’s health, plus PAWfect poops!

The Challenges Facing Marine Biodiversity

Why Silver Carp is the Perfect Sustainable Swap

Also known as Asian carp, this invasive fish has rapidly spread through U.S. waterways including the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. At Chippin, we’re turning this ecological threat into high-quality nutrition for dogs!

Our silver carp is wild-caught by U.S. fishermen. That means no industrial aquaculture, no antibiotics or hormones, and full traceability from boat to bowl.

  • No feed or fertilizers required
  • No land or freshwater use
  • Significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions
  • Restores biodiversity to U.S. waterways!

Bottom trawling is a destructive fishing practice that destroys the ocean floor and releases an estimated 370 million metric tons of CO2 annually. Chippin’s Silver carp fisherfolk will never use bottom trawling.

It is estimated that at least 128,000 people are trapped in forced labor in the fishing industry.

What is Chippin’s Cricket Daily Food

Why Choose Dehydrated Dog Food?

Chippin’s Dehydrated Cricket Recipe Dog Food is human-grade food and crafted in the USA. We start by first drying fresh ingredients until the moisture is removed. Compared to traditional kibble, our cricket dehydrated food is a minimally processed option that preserves the nutritional value of our high-quality ingredients.

Our cricket recipe dehydrated food offers several benefits over traditional kibble.

Convenient: Dehydrated food is easy to prepare and has a shelf life comparable to most kibbles, making it a convenient option for busy pet owners. It’s also the pawfect travel dog food as it’s light and easily portable.

FAQs

Questions pet parents ask Chippin

Where do you source your ingredients?
Chippin is made in the USA, and we partner with small to medium sized local farms to directly source our human grade cricket, spirulina and silver carp proteins. Our farmers are partners we know and trust!
Are Chippin products developed with veterinarians?
Yes! Meet Dr. Beth Hamper, our veterinary nutritionist, in the vet desk above.
Is Chippin vegan or vegetarian?
Our recipes are built on cricket, silver carp and spirulina, with no chicken or beef. The protein trio above shows each one, and Veggie Dailies is the plant-based daily.
Does the silver carp smell fishy?
It does not have a fishy smell. Our silver carp products have a neutral aroma. In fact, when surveyed, 100% of pet parents described the products as smelling “Good” and “Much better than regular pet food.” That's because silver carp is a naturally light fish and we source it fresh caught directly from a local fishery.
How does cricket protein reduce the carbon pawprint?
Livestock management is a leading cause of deforestation. Livestock and manure management are some of the leading causes of methane emissions. Crickets emit no methane emissions and use a tiny fraction of the water and land used within the animal agriculture industry.
How does spirulina reduce the carbon pawprint?
Ecologically grown, our spirulina is more than 55% protein and grown in a closed-loop water and nutrient recycling system. Did you know that growing spirulina actually requires the use of CO2? While most protein development emits CO2, spirulina actually absorbs it!
What is the shelf life?
Each eco friendly Chippin package has a "best by" date printed on the bag! The product expires at this date, and you will always have at least 6 months shelf life upon delivery. We bake everything in small batches to keep food fresh.
How do you determine my dog's portions?
We follow the recommendation of Board Certified veterinarians for daily calorie intake needed based on your dog's weight and whether she or he is spayed/neutered. Based on your dog's breed and activity levels, you may need to adjust feeding amounts! We are happy to help make adjustments to delivery timing or quantity.
Is the packaging sustainable? Is it recyclable?
Yes, our “earth saving” eco friendly packaging is made from 29% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials! If you look closely you can see little bumps that are not in “virgin” plastic packaging. Those bumps are little pieces of sterilized and repurposed milk cartons and yogurt cups. Also, the packaging may crinkle/wrinkle more than standard food pouches; that's a good thing! It is not recyclable. We know that less than 9% of plastic is actually recycled, so we chose to support the reuse of other materials that would otherwise create waste with our PCR food safe packaging.
My dog has a larger volume of stool on the Dehydrated Daily Food. Is this normal?
Yes! It's normal for your dog to have a more voluminous stool as the recipe is high in both moisture and fiber, especially compared to a previous dry kibble diet. Follow the feeding guidelines on the product page to ensure your dog is receiving the correct amount of food daily.
Is Chippin available in stores?
Chippin is available in select stores across the USA. We are glad to bring Chippin to stores across the country!
What if my dog doesn’t like the food?
We like to say Chippin is "picky dog approved." Dogs love the taste! However, every dog is different so we'll work with you to make things right. Email us at hello@chippinpet.com if you have any questions or concerns. If you can share with a dog that may enjoy, we encourage sharing with furiends to help avoid food waste.
